ORC Fall '22 Part II: Not So Mellow Yellow

Oh hey! Long time no see

You’re probably wondering what’s happening with my bedroom makeover. My life has been unexpectedly busy lately. While this would have been a good reason to pause on the project, I’d already moved the entire content of my bedroom, aside from the bed and night stand, to my living room and dining room. I’ve basically put myself in a hostage situation where if I ever want to see the top of my dining room table again, I need to finish this ORC.

Listen, motivation comes in all forms.

While I haven’t had much time to post, I have been busy behind the scenes with my ORC. Here’s what I’ve been up to!

Laying out the furniture and rug to see if it will work in the space

Immediately regretting my decions

It’s so…yellow.

When Backdrop dropped Color of the Year, I was smitten. It is such a bold color and as someone who uses mostly black and white paint throughout her home, the idea of using such a bright, unapologetic shade of yellow was exciting…until I actually started painting.

Several times throughout the process and even up until I finished, I thought I had made a mistake and that I should have stuck to my normal shades of white. But after the paint fully dried and I had a night of sleep, I started to fall in love with the color. It’s such a rich shade, it’s bright, fun and warm. It makes the closet feel cozy without feeling small. I paired Color of the Year with a crisp white Chantilly Lace from Benjamin Moore.

One tip if you are going to use this shade: You NEED a primer. I did not primer my entire closet and I noticed that the places that did have primer had a rich color with the first coat, and by the second coat, it was completely solid. But the parts that did not have primer took several coats to get to the same point. The parts without primer left a patchy look until I added more coats. This contributed to my feelings of anxiety over my color choice.

But once the paint was even and dry, I was obsessed with how it turned out:

I can’t wait to finish styling this space. I’m so glad I took a chance and tried a color outside of my comfort zone. Next up on the ORC docket:
